The person will have grown up using dissociation as a way of denying to themselves that certain traumatic issues and abuse did not occur. In that way they could live their life unaware of the abuse they had been put through.

This leads to little or no memory of the abuse they went through.

The person will suffer from symptoms such as:

Experiencing flashbacks and reliving traumatic memories

Triggers from the day to day reminders of trauma, such as smells, sounds, colours, objects and words etc. These can be conscious or unconscious

Triggers can lead to rapid switching between alters who then begin to experience a flashback, reliving the abuse that the triggers remind them off
